Centrifugal and positive displacement pumps are the most common pumps used in food, beverage and pharmaceutical processes.
Centrifugal Pumps
These pumps feature a rotating impeller and a stationary casing. Centrifugal pumps are well suited to applications involving variable flow rates. Flow capacity is regulated by throttling and varying impeller speed.
Products typically handled by centrifugal pumps*:
|
Batter Fats & Oils Flavorings Sweeteners Slurries Beer Wort Yeast Fruit drinks Soft drinks Wine |
Alcohol Syrups Milk Cream Whey Sweetened condensed milk Liquid fat Frying oil Cleaning solutions |
Positive Displacement Pumps
Positive displacement pumps have an expanding cavity on the suction side of the pump and a decreasing cavity on the discharge side. Unlike a centrifugal pump, a positive displacement pump will produce the same flow at a given speed, regardless of discharge pressure.
Products typically handled by positive displacement pumps*:
|
Batters Flavorings Frostings Yeast slurry Liquid sponge systems Dough Fruit fillings Frying oil Sweeteners Flavor syrups Citrus processing Fruit drinks Fruit concentrates Fruit puree Crushed fruit Emulsions Meat products Deboned meat Rendering operations Prepared meat products Ground meat |
Fat Baby foods Soups Cream style vegetables Diced vegetables Tomato paste, sauce Ketchup Puddings Jellies Salad dressings Mayonnaise Potato salad Gravy Chocolate Chocolate liquor Milk chocolate Cocoa butter Fondant Cream fillings Cleaning solutions |
